Professional Whitening vs. Store-Bought Whitening

When it comes to whitening teeth, many people believe that store-bought solutions are just as good as or better than what you can get at the dentist. Teeth whitening, however, is like pain medication: the higher the concentration, the more effect it has. Using this analogy, store-bought whitening is like a normal OTC headache pill. It will work, but it takes time and only lasts a short while. The whitening treatment you get from Dr. Ki, however, is like a migraine treatment in a hospital. It acts fast, does its job extremely well, and lasts far longer than any over-the-counter solution.

The reason that store-bought whitening treatments are not as effective as the one you will receive here lies in the concentration and type of the whitening agent. Store-bought whiteners generally contain a concentration of between 10 and 20 percent carbamide peroxide. Carbamide peroxide is weaker than hydrogen peroxide, so this concentration level is equal to about 3 percent concentration of hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide concentration in Zoom WhiteSpeed, however, is much higher than 3 percent, and this does not even taken into account the enhancing effect of the WhiteSpeed lamp we use.

Zoom WhiteSpeed

With our Zoom WhiteSpeed in-office whitening treatment, you will experience teeth that are up to 8 shades whiter after a single visit to our office. Zoom WhiteSpeed is unique due to its special LED lamp specifically designed to use with the Zoom whitening treatment. The WhiteSpeed lamp enhances the whitening properties of the gel used to bring out the true color of your smile.

The Zoom Process

  • Step #1 – The process starts with your initial consultation with Dr. Ki. You will have your teeth examined and a shade assessment done. This assessment will determine how white your teeth are and how much whitening you will require to get them to your desired shade. Dr. Ki will take impressions of your teeth during this appointment also. The impressions will be used to fabricate the custom-fit whitening trays for your procedure.
  • Step #2 – The first part of your whitening treatment visit will involve preparing you for the procedure. Vitamin E will be applied to your lips to protect them from the intensity of the WhiteSpeed LED. You will also have a protective barrier applied to your gums. This will keep them from becoming irritated by the whitening solution. The final part of the prep will be applying the WhiteSpeed gel to your teeth and using the WhiteSpeed LED to enhance the whitening effects. Your treatment will consist of three to four 15-minute sessions of WhiteSpeed LED whitening. We will apply more gel prior to each session.
  • Step #3 – You will receive your take-home trays with whitening gel specifically designed to keep your smile bright and white. You will also receive a special gel to use should you experience any type of tooth sensitivity.

A white smile is a confident smile, and Zoom WhiteSpeed will give you just that. Call Dr. Ki today to set up your appointment. You can reach our office at (703) 273-2545 , or schedule your appointment online. Use our convenient online form, and one of us will be in touch with you shortly.
